Gilead

Access to HIV Care in the United States

As the leading provider of HIV therapy, Gilead takes its responsibility to patients seriously. We are committed to developing medications that address the needs of the medical community, and we are equally committed to ensuring patients can access the therapies we develop.

Recognizing the financial difficulties many individuals face in today's challenging economy, Gilead has established one of the most comprehensive packages of patient assistance solutions for people living with HIV.
  • In 2008, Gilead established a voluntary price freeze for state AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs). This price freeze has been extended through the end of 2013.
  • In June 2010 Gilead announced that it had lowered its HIV product price for ADAP beyond that of federally mandated rebates.
  • In November 2011, Gilead offered additional voluntary discounts and rebates to all state ADAPs. For more information, please visit www.nastad.org.
  • Additionally, our Patient Assistance Program (PAP) provides HIV medication at no cost, for patients whose income is up to five times the federal poverty guidelines. Many of the individuals accessing medication through this program are self-employed or working poor individuals who lack insurance.

Today, approximately half of all patients taking Gilead's HIV drugs receive them through federal and state programs at discounted prices.

  • For those with private insurance, Gilead's co-pay program provides assistance for eligible patients with insurance coverage who are unable to bear the full cost of their co-payments. The program pays up to $200 per month ($2,400/year) toward out-of-pocket expenses for Gilead's HIV medications starting at the first dollar.

At Gilead, we continue to reinvest in research of exciting new targets and in development programs for new therapies that have the potential to help more people living with HIV in the years to come.

Notably, we have three products in Phase III development in HIV, as well as additional novel products currently in earlier phases of development. We are also actively researching strategies to "cure" HIV, or effectively eradicate the disease from the human body.

Whether through novel science or unique access initiatives, Gilead remains committed to developing solutions to ensure patients have access to life-saving HIV therapies.
