Wilton Park Conference on Financing HIV Treatment |
|
The number of people in developing countries receiving antiretroviral treatment for HIV/AIDS has increased significantly over the past decade. At the same time, millions of people who need treatment still do not have access to it. At a high-level meeting February 12-14, 2011, leaders from around the world discussed innovative strategies to continue expanding HIV treatment access by mobilizing new resources and making smarter use of those resources. The meeting – organized by the Wilton Park conference center in partnership with the Global Health Group of the University of California, San Francisco, and Gilead – brought together government officials, religious leaders, corporate executives, HIV/AIDS experts, civil society advocates and others for a broad-ranging conversation. Participants addressed issues such as the need for greater in-country investment in HIV treatment; opportunities for international donors to achieve new efficiencies in treatment programs; and the critical importance of HIV prevention. The meeting report, Financing continued scale-up in HIV treatment: more money for years gained and more years gains for the money, can be downloaded from the Wilton Park website. |
