Kevin E. Lofton

Chief Executive Officer, Catholic Health Initiatives


Kevin E. Lofton joined our Board in July 2009. On February 1, 2019, Mr. Lofton became the Chief Executive Officer of CommonSpirit Health, the result of a merger between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health. He previously served as the CEO of CHI from 2003–2019. Headquartered in Chicago, the healthcare system has revenues of $29 billion and operates the full continuum of services from hospitals to home health throughout the nation. He previously served as CEO of two university hospitals, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital and Howard University Hospital. In 2007, Mr. Lofton served as Chairman of the Board of the American Hospital Association, the nation’s largest hospital trade association. In May 2016, he received an honorary Doctor of Humanities in Medicine degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. In 2014, The Healthcare Financial Management Association awarded the Richard L. Clarke Board of Directors Award to Mr. Lofton in recognition of his extensive and far reaching work in the area of healthcare disparities and creating healthier communities. Mr. Lofton also serves on the Board of Directors of Rite Aid Corporation.
