Gilead Sciences Statement on Commitment to Providing Price Information
Foster City, Calif. – Apr. 10, 2019 – Gilead is dedicated to transforming and simplifying care for people living with or at risk of life-threatening illnesses. We believe everyone should have information about their care options, including cost and, importantly, potential resources for accessing our medications.
As part of that goal, beginning this quarter in our direct-to-consumer (DTC) television advertising, we will add information directing patients to an online resource containing the list prices for the medication being advertised, projected out-of-pocket costs in various insurance coverage scenarios, context about these potential costs and information on available financial assistance.
Gilead’s approach to DTC advertising will comply with the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America’s (PhRMA) voluntary “principle” relating to directing patients to information about the cost of medications being advertised. Gilead is an active member of PhRMA and joins with other member companies in a shared commitment to providing meaningful, relevant information about medication costs.
"The United States healthcare landscape is complex and can be difficult for patients to navigate,” said Gregg Alton, Chief Patient Officer, Gilead Sciences. "Helping patients understand their out-of-pocket costs for our medications aligns with Gilead's patient-centered approach. We are committed to providing accurate price information in a way that people can easily understand to help them make informed health care decisions."
Moving forward, Gilead is committed to ongoing discussion and partnerships with policymakers, payers and other stakeholders in the United States healthcare system to identify ways to further improve understanding of medication costs and best meet the needs of patients.
