What types of initiatives does Gilead typically sponsor?
Gilead sponsors select events or conferences that raise awareness and support organizations working in our therapeutic areas of focus: HIV, liver disease and oncology. Events Gilead has sponsored include walks/runs, awards dinners, fundraising galas, and community conferences.
What is the average sponsorship amount awarded?
There is not an average amount due to varying engagements and sponsorship tiers. Sponsorship request amount should be commensurate with fair market value of benefits.
What are the eligibility criteria for nonprofit organizations?
Gilead requires a 501(c)(3) status or international equivalent, alignment with our areas of focus, and a track record of impact.
How far in advance should we submit a sponsorship request?
Requests should typically be submitted 3–6 months before the event or initiative.
Is there a formal application or intake form we need to complete?
Yes, a standardized form on our online portal for sponsorship submissions can be found here at: gilead-grants.steeprockinc.com. When applying, please select “Sponsorship” as the grant type.
What are the key decision-making criteria used to evaluate requests?
Criteria often include strategic alignment, equity impact, visibility, community engagement, budget clarity, and timeliness of submission.
Can we apply for multi-year sponsorships?
Yes, however, there are very few of these sponsorships awarded.
Do we need to specify how sponsorship funds will be used?
Yes, a detailed budget and sponsorship prospectus are required. The prospectus should clearly list the tiers/level of support and any associated benefits.
Will Gilead require visibility or branding at our event?
Most corporate sponsors expect some form of recognition, such as logo placement, speaking opportunities, or media mentions.
Can multiple organizations apply jointly for sponsorship?
Collaborative proposals are often welcomed, especially if they demonstrate shared impact and cost-efficiency. Only one proposal per event should be submitted and can indicate that there is a lead organization collaborating with other organizations.
How long does it take to receive a decision?
Gilead has an internal review committee that reviews and awards sponsorships based on how closely the proposed sponsorship matches the company’s mission and therapeutic focus areas. Decisions can take up to six weeks.
Are there restrictions on how sponsorship funds can be used?
Funds are restricted to the specific activities (e.g., event costs, outreach) outlined in your request and cannot be used for lobbying or political purposes, purchasing, prescribing, recommending or otherwise supporting Gilead products.
Is reporting or follow-up required after the sponsorship?
Yes, a brief impact report or summary of outcomes is required.
Can we reapply if our request is declined?
Yes, however, the request should be revised to better align with Gilead priorities and submitted at least 3-6 months before the event or initiative.
When will we receive payment?
Payments can only be disbursed after the sponsorship contract has been fully executed. If your organization has received Gilead funding in the past, sponsorship payments will be disbursed 7-10 business days after contract execution. If your organization has not yet received Gilead funding, you will need to submit onboarding paperwork and payment information through our secure payments' portal. This process can take an additional 7-10 business days but can be delayed if paperwork is not completed correctly.
