ADAPT's Mission
ADAPT (Accelerating Disability Awareness & Progress Together) provides a welcoming community for all employees, focused on advancing disability inclusion and building understanding of disability-related topics. The mission of ADAPT is to:
- Foster a workplace where individuals with apparent and non-apparent disabilities feel supported, empowered and valued
- Promote conversation, awareness, influence and action around disability inclusion
- Ensure equal opportunity for all employees to thrive in creating possible at Gilead
This is especially important to me because I know disabilities aren’t always visible. Some of the biggest challenges I’ve faced – and that I know others face – come from trying to hide symptoms to avoid judgment, often leading to extremely uncomfortable situations when hiding simply isn’t possible. To me, ADAPT is about raising awareness and fostering environments where people can speak openly about what they’re going through and receive empathy and understanding without judgment, assumptions, or shame.

Disability Awareness and Allyship
ADAPT partners with other ERGs and internal teams to share more about disability inclusion in the workplace, and the resources available to employees. This includes events on topics such as accessibility awareness, neurodiversity, allyship and more.
Landmark Event Commemoration
ADAPT celebrates and recognizes important landmark events, such as the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the U.S., and International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Digital Accessibility
In partnership with the Disability Inclusion team, ADAPT provides workshops and resources on digital accessibility – supporting employees in creating a more inclusive workplace both online and off. These workshops focused on how to create more accessible day to day communications, such as emails and presentations.
