Gilead Research Scholars Program
Advancing Science Together
Our Mission
Gilead’s Research Scholars Program supports innovative research from emerging investigators around the world to advance scientific knowledge in areas of unmet medical needs and improve the lives of patients everywhere.
Program Overview
Since its launch in 2008, Gilead’s Research Scholars Program has invested in meaningful research by early-career scientists to help drive medical breakthroughs in the following therapeutic areas:
- HIV
- Hematology/oncology
- Liver disease
- Antifungals
The Gilead Research Scholars Program grants provide two years of financial support to junior faculty researchers. Each award is funded up to $130,000, paid as two annual installments directly to the scholar’s institution. Funding for the second year is contingent upon submission of a progress report and approval by the Scientific Review Committee Chair.

Discovering New Possibilities
We empower the next generation of independent researchers striving to push science and innovation forward.
Advancing Science Together
We believe in the power of collaboration. Together, we can advance medical science for the benefit of humanity.
Scientific Review Committee
Across therapeutic areas, each Research Scholars Program is overseen by a Scientific Review Committee, composed of distinguished experts in their fields and independent from Gilead.
To maintain the integrity and competitive standards of the program overall, and to ensure these awards support the next generation of breakthrough scientific discovery, each independent Scientific Review Committee is charged with evaluating all applicants and proposals.
