Gilead Recognized as Top Corporate Philanthropist in Funders Concerned About AIDS Report

FOSTER CITY, Calif., December 6, 2016 - Philanthropic Support to Address HIV/AIDS in 2015, a new report published by Funders Concerned About AIDS (FCAA), ranks Gilead Sciences as the leading corporate global funder of HIV/AIDS programs, and second overall behind the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Gilead is the top corporate funder in several sub-categories, including philanthropy to address HIV in the United States and giving to support vulnerable populations, such as men who have sex with men and people who inject drugs.

"Gilead is proud to support community organizations, advocates, physicians and others responding to the HIV epidemic around the world," said Gregg Alton, Executive Vice President, Commercial and Access Operations ALA, Corporate and Medical Affairs, Gilead Sciences. "We recognize that serious barriers still prevent people living with or at risk for HIV from accessing urgently needed prevention, testing and care services, and have significantly increased our philanthropic support for HIV programs in recent years."

Gilead's corporate contributions program works across all of the company's therapeutic areas to address four goals: improve health access, eliminate the barriers to healthcare encountered by underserved populations, advance education among healthcare professionals and support the local communities in which the company operates. In addition to philanthropic giving, Gilead supports the response to HIV through its developing world access program, which now provides treatment for 10 million people living with HIV; the FOCUS initiative, which supports routine HIV testing in healthcare settings in the United States; and other collaborations with community organizations and policymakers.
