Foster City, Calif., August 27, 2026 – Today, Gilead Sciences commemorated the groundbreaking of its new Chess biologics facility at the company's Foster City, Calif. headquarters, advancing a planned $32 billion investment in U.S. research, development and manufacturing through 2030.
The facility will strengthen Gilead's end-to-end biologics capabilities, providing greater scale, speed and flexibility to support the development of innovative medicines from clinical development through commercial launch, and helping to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into potential new treatments for patients. It is estimated to be completed by 2029.
The groundbreaking marks a significant milestone in Gilead's long-term strategy to invest in U.S.-based scientific research, advanced manufacturing and the infrastructure needed to develop and deliver future medicines.
The Chess biologics facility is part of Gilead’s broader Foster City campus investment, alongside the New Research Center and Technical Development Center, strengthening the infrastructure needed to advance scientific discovery, development, and manufacturing.
