Gilead’s U.S. investments in Research & Development and manufacturing can readily be seen at its headquarters in Foster City, where construction crews and heavy equipment are hard at work in the center of campus building a new Research Center.
Once complete in 2026, the 182,000 square-foot building will be home to the company’s oncology and inflammation research. Billed as one of the most sustainable and digitally enabled labs in the country, it was designed based on the feedback of the very researchers who will be using the facility. Everything from autonomous robots to augmented reality and digital twins will be part of the center.
Over the next five years, Gilead will create approximately $43 billion in value to the U.S. economy through direct capital and jobs creation. Besides the research center, the company is building two other new, state-of-the-art facilities, upgrading three existing sites to expand U.S. manufacturing and R&D capabilities, and investing in new technology and advanced engineering initiatives. It’s all part of a plan to invest $32 billion to further strengthen and build resilience within the country.
Gilead’s Flavius Martin, Executive Vice President, Research and Joydeep Ganguly, Senior Vice President, Corporate Operations, recently donned hard hats and safety glasses to see how the site is coming along and to share more about the innovation that will be developed inside the facility when it opens its doors next year.
