Adefovir dipivoxil is an investigational oral antiviral agent for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B that was granted a six-month priority review by the FDA. Adefovir dipivoxil works by blocking hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA polymerase, an enzyme crucial to the replication of HBV in the body.
